UPCOMING MASTERCLASSES
Join us for our fifth masterclass of 2023, delivered by Dauda Ladejobi on Saturday 7 October. This masterclass will look at the ways in which we can give a memorable performance, and work on delivery and intonation.
In the 2.5hr session Dauda will use drama techniques and practice to hone in on the tips and tricks that make performances, engaging, and memorable!
Dauda Ladejobi
Dauda Ladejobi is an actor, spoken word performer and poet. He is the voice of The Barking Stink animations, and part of cultural groups in Barking like Studio 3 Arts and the White House.
He got into drama and poetry as a teenager and now runs workshops for local young people in Barking and Dagenham. Dauda moved to the UK from Lagos in Nigeria when he was 8 years old. He describes his school memories and how he discovered his passion for drama and history. From chicken shop to scotch bonnet smells, he talks about favourite food odours that are unique to both Barking high street and Lagos.

Join us for our fourth masterclass of 2023, delivered by Debris Stevenson on Saturday 2 September. This masterclass will look at the ways in which poetry, movement and GRIME collide and the art we can make in the midst of it.
In the 2.5hr session Debris will share ideas and demonstrate ways we can diversify our art and collaborate not only with our peers but our own bodies! Debris Stevenson Debris Stevenson is a hybrid-playwright, dyslexic educator, Grime-poet, queer ex-Mormon and pro-raver. Debris debut play Poet in da Corner (Royal Court) received 5 stars in The Evening Standard and was followed by the show’s album release (Accidental Records) and UK tour in 2020. Debris had her acting screen debut in MEDUSA DELUXE at Locarno Film Festival in 2022, and is currently working on a play for Hightide Theatre.

PAST MASTERCLASSES
Join us for our third masterclass, delivered by The Metaphorest on Saturday 3 June. This masterclass will look at how to create interesting and engaging social media content, even from your phone!
In the 2.5hr session Meta will share ideas and demonstrate ways we can grow our audiences, using consistency, enjoyment and the right lighting!
This masterclass, like all of our programming, is free for participants. Very limited spaces available. Applications will not be accepted after Saturday 27 May 2023.
METAPHOREST
With an amalgamation of classical and contemporary influences his body of work is a catalogue of the early page poetry and the more contemporary styles of spoken word.
A repertoire that showcases elements he now uses to make both these styles crossover and appeal to all audiences.
He has designs to bring something different to the scene and to those outside of poetry. The mission: to tear down the mystique of poetry, and make it open to all through his YouTube, podcast, events and social media platforms
Join us for our first masterclass of 2023, delivered by Hannah Gordon on Saturday 4 March. This masterclass will look at how to organise, host and create a community around events .
In the 2.5hr session Hannah will share ideas and demonstrate ways to design an event, tips and tricks about hosting them, as well as create an audience and keep them hooked.

HANNAH GORDON
Poet, teacher, facilitator and ciotóg
Hannah Gordon is a poet, teacher and facilitator. She is a host of Spoken Word London and co-led their 2019 Anti-Hate festival. She is the founder and chief facilitator of Word Up’s Words Down writing group and a member of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen. She was selected for the inaugural Mid-Career Poets program at the Roundhouse. Her poetry has been published in various anthologies, including the Malika’s Poetry Kitchen Anthology Too Young, Too Loud, Too Different out with Corsair in August 2021.
Join us for our last masterclass of 2022, delivered by Remi Graves on Saturday 3 December. This masterclass will look at how to facilitate poetry and other creative workshops.
In the 2.5hr session Remi will share ideas and demonstrate ways to create an engaging lesson plan, explore ideas on what makes a great facilitator and give us the tools to create activities for different participants and how to adapt them for who is in the room!

REMI GRAVES
Remi Graves is a London based poet and drummer. A former Barbican Young Poet, Remi’s work has been commissioned by St Paul’s Cathedral, Visit England and BBC Radio 4. Past projects include a residency at Croydon Library with Spine Festival and Remi was Digital Poet in Residence with 1215.today and The Poetry School. Remi was a 2017 National Poetry Day Ambassador and has performed at Cheltenham Literature Festival, Tate Modern and more.
